‘Wonder Where them Flowers Is, Soon They’ll Pop Up Out the Ground, Else They Will Be Dro-ownd”
by Cris Brisbin, Editor

Another Enchanted Circle Winter is safely under our belts and headed over the horizon.
It was an oddly semi-hazardous season this year with the high wind storms and punishing hail, but Mother Nature came through for the skiers it seemed like just in time to “open” each section of the season with a fresh dusting, and beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
The devastating high winds that mauled the Red River area will not be long forgotten for sure, but recovery is ongoing and doing well.
Faces are turning towards the sunnier days and warmer breezes, anglers are getting their equipment primed and poles strung with fresh string. Bicycles are starting to appear on the backs of vehicles coming in to the parks and the locals are gearing up for the ever-busy 93 days of the “Summer Work Season.” That always fills the valley with friends, family and tourists of all walks of life, who come to enjoy our little slice of paradise, up here at the elevation of 8,350, or greater.
The crazy little prairiedogs are becoming more obvious, the elk are a little more relaxed and starting to be seen more, closer to the towns, and the deer are back with their new fawns and begging cups.
I simply love spring in the mountains! The Apsens will begin to bud and the gorgeous fields of flowers will soon take over the landscape.
My family has been in this valley since the 40’s and I have never been disappointed by the absolute raw beauty that fills the canyons between the villages in our little circle.
In my family cabin, we have guestbooks that have been meticulously kept since the early 50’s, and the descriptions of the times haven’t changed much as far as the magnificent beauty and the plentiful bounty that surrounds us.
Soon the Farmer’s Markets will be arriving, the Spring & Summer Concert schedules will appear, Family Movie Nights, Concerts, Crafts Fairs and Car Shows will fill our weekends with not only joy, but much needed income.
It appears that things might be beginning to return to some sort of normalcy and I, for one, am REALLY looking forward to seeing my old friends, hugging their necks and sharing a great glass of New Mexico wines with them.
I’m new here as an editor, but an old soul here in the valley.
